Like many, it’s safe to say that from time-to-time I enjoy binge watching TV shows and over the years I have banked some favourites that I will always recommend to friends and family, and now I want to do the same for you all. So, if you have just finished a series and are left with an empty post-series hole to fill, then check out my top seven favourite must-see TV shows…
- American Television Series starring: Elizabeth Gillies, Nathalie Kelley and Grant Show.
This is one of the shows I am currently watching, and in just over a week it has quickly become one of my favourites. If you like TV shows such as Gossip Girl or 90210 then you’ll love this! This show, which is a modern reboot of the 1980s soap of the same name, is a Netflix original and currently you will find one whole series to watch, with new episodes of series two added every Wednesday.
Young Sheldon (2017-present)
- American Television Series starring: Jim Parsons, Iain Armitage and Zoe Perry.
If you like the American sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, then you will absolutely love this. This spin-off show focusses on The Big Bang Theory’s know-it-all scientist, Sheldon Cooper, going back in time to Sheldon’s youth. With laughs a minute, I would highly recommend this.
Pretty Little Liars (2010-2017)
- American Drama starring: Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellsario
A seven series show, each with around 24 episodes each, Pretty Little Liars certainly requires a great deal of time investment. However, it’s worth every second. If you don’t know already it’s centred around five friends who are being threatened by a mystery character called ‘A’, and each series gets darker and darker. Having watched this from the age of just 12 years old, it’s safe to say that by 2017 I was gripped. So, if you haven’t already, give this a watch.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008-2013)
- American Drama starring: Shailene Woodley, Daren Kagasoff and Francia Raisa.
This is a bit of a throwback show, but one that in my eyes is timeless. My discovery of this show was completely by accident on Sky Demand and it quickly became a favourite. It’s about a teen played by Shailene Woodley who falls pregnant at a very young age. I think I watched every season within a week during summer, and if you love American dramas then you need to add this to your boxsets to watch.
Body of Proof (2011-2013)
- Medical Drama starring: Stars Dana Delany, Jeri Ryan and Nicholas Bishop
This show is all about Dr Megan Hunt, who becomes a medical examiner. Looking into how people have been killed, Megan helps catch the killers. It’s really interesting, and once you have watched one episode you will be left wanting more.
Thirteen Reasons Why (2017)
- Teen American Drama starring: Katherine Langford, Dylan Minnette and Alisha Boe
You may remember that over the summer of 2017, this programme generated a lot of hype online as popstar Selena Gomez was the Executive Producer behind the show. A teenage girl, played by Katherine Langford, commits suicide, but before she does, she records and leaves behind 13 tapes which explain the reasons she ended her life. With the last episode ending on a cliff-hanger, lovers of this show, including me, are eagerly awaiting the second series this year – a final release date has not been confirmed yet though.
Jane the Virgin (2014-present)
- American Telenovela starring: Brett Dier, Gina Rodriguez and Justin Baldoni
This show has become my guilty pleasure but be warned it’s a little like marmite – you either love it or you hate it. I personally love it. The series starts with Jane being accidentally artificially inseminated with another man’s sperm and the story spirals from there. I must say though, if you do plan on watching it then make sure you give it at least three episodes before you make your final judgement.
And, that’s all for my top TV shows that you need to watch!
