With the excitement of Christmas and New Year now done for another year, people are starting to turn their attention to the next big event- Valentine’s Day. And, as the occasion is just around the corner I wanted to share with you all a go-to date night makeup look that will suit any eye colour and skin tone.
Before I start, I want to mention that this look uses a fair amount of red shades which I know a lot of people may shy away from but really shouldn’t.
Prepping the skin-
As with any makeup look, I always start with prepping the skin by cleansing and moisturising. The cleanser I have been loving at the moment is the REN Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Gel as it helps my breakouts and leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean. Once cleansed I went in with my Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate and face spray to make sure my skin was nicely hydrated. I truly believe that a hydrated, cleansed base works best when applying makeup, so make sure you don’t skip these steps!
Moving onto the eyes, I do this before my base as I can clean the eyes up afterwards with my foundation.
Firstly, I blended ‘At the Office’ from the Marc Jacobs palette into my crease with a fluffy blending brush and then took ‘Violet’ from the Ciate palette and did the same thing. Once that was all blended, I took ‘Marron’ from Ciate and deepened my crease. For my lid shade, I took ‘Scandalous’ from Marc Jacobs on a flat shader brush and packed it on all over my lid. Since this can look a little harsh, I went in and blended over where all of the shades join in my crease with ‘At the Office’. To finish the eye shadow, I simply used my finger and applied ‘Cause a Fuss’ onto the centre of my lid to add a little shimmer.
Now, of course, if you want to you can apply a coat of winged eye liner, but I kept this look simple and just lightly lined my lash line with the Rimmel Ink Me Eye Liner.
To finish off the eyes, I applied a good few coats of my favourite mascara to make sure my lashes were looking full and long.
For primer, I used the Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer, which is my current favourite. This primer not only feels amazing on the skin, it also allows my makeup to go on smoothly and lasts all day. I then went in with the Cover FX Custom Enhance Highlighting Drops all over my face, and I used a stippling brush for this. If this is too much of a glow for you then feel free to just apply on your cheekbones, but for a date night I like to go all out.
For foundation and concealer, I chose to use the Becca Aqua Luminous Foundation and my trusted Tarte Shape Tape, which are the perfect duo.
If you’ve read any of my other makeup tutorials, you’ll know that I LOVE cream products, so it’ll be no surprise to you that I then bronzed my skin with the Giorgio Armani Maestro Bronzer and contoured with the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand. Again, these make the perfect combo.
Since I used a lot of cream products, I set my base makeup with my Nars pressed powder, to make sure it stayed all night.
Once my makeup was set, I returned to my eyes and took ‘Scandalous’ on an angled liner brush and pushed it into my lower lash line.
To finish off my base, I bronzed with my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer and highlighted with my Anastasia Beverly Hills highlighter in the shade ‘Butterscotch’ which complements the eye look.
For this makeup look, I used MAC ‘Really Me’ lipstick, which is a warm mauve shade. Since the eye look is quite strong, I personally think that a ‘mauvey nude’ works best. However, if you want to, you could also pair this with a darker nude which would also look lovely.
I love this makeup look, I think it really suits me and will suit any skin tone and eye colour. I don’t just limit this look to date night either, I also sometimes will wear it to work, or even nights out, so if you want to recreate it, please don’t think it’s only for date night.
