19 Things I’ve Learnt at 19!

In life, you never stop learning. Whether you are 92 or 19 there’s always new lessons to be learnt. At 19, I believe I have already gained a lot of insight into how to handle the things life throws at me. I want to share with you the 19 things I’ve learnt at 19.

  1. You only live once-

Although this one is very cliché, it’s something that I like to think I live by. As Khloe Kardashian once said, ‘you have your whole life to be old, but you only have a few years to be young’ and I totally agree with this.

  1. Surround yourself with positive people-

This one speaks for itself but I always try my best to surround myself with positive people that will only ever do good things for my state of mind.

  1. Everybody makes mistakes-

This one is something I tell myself a lot, and whether you’re young or old then it’s something you need to realise; we live, we make mistakes and we learn, simple!

  1. Always have goals-

Having goals in life not only motivates you but it also helps you have a plan of where you want to end up.

  1. Don’t let the little things get to you-

This is one that I’m still working on but one that actually has a big impact. Once I stop letting the little things get to me, the happier I will be.

  1. Don’t care what people think-

Everyone has their own insecurities so who are they to judge?

  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously-

Being a comedy lover like myself, I always want to make people laugh and make people smile.

  1. Hold on to true friends-

If, like me you are lucky enough to have a great group of close friends, hold onto them. It’s also okay to let go of those who bring you down.

  1. Never fill your car up at a supermarket-

This is one of my most recent life lessons, and although cheaper it’s actually worse for your car.

  1. Make time for your loved ones-

Our loved ones aren’t going to be here forever and in the past few years I’ve realised that I should be spending more time with the people I love and ensure I fully appreciate our time together.

  1. Be polite-

Manners cost nothing!

  1. Be confident-

Even if you aren’t a confident person, I always think it’s important to come across as if you are it’ll always make people remember you.

  1. Be honest-

I know sometimes it’s easier to lie than to tell the truth but I believe that honesty really is the best policy and although it may not be what people want to hear you should still tell them.

  1. Work hard-

Hard work truly does pay off and can get you to where you want to be.

  1. Never go shopping when you’re hungry-

Your eyes are bigger than your belly! I’ve gone shopping hungry many times and ended up costing myself a lot of money.

  1. Don’t wash your hair everyday-

Something everyone should know.

  1. You can’t please everyone-

No matter what age you are or what you’re doing in life, realising you can’t please everyone is super important.

  1. Age is just a number-

Being 19 means that people don’t necessarily take you seriously or think that you have enough experience but let me tell you, if you have the knowledge and the passion you can prove people wrong.

  1. Make the next 19 years count.

Although I’m only 19, these life lessons are certainly ones that I’ve learnt from personal experience and I’m sure I have many more to come.

What’s one thing that you’ve learnt in life so far? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter – @Emstagramr.

  1. Really great tips for any age! I’ve learnt to always apologise if I feel I have made a mistake. It makes me feel so much better and enables me to move on and learn from it x

  2. Number 15! I did that last weekend. Then I had to go back during the week and return a bunch of stuff. Also, you’ve made some great points for 19 year old. Damn I’m old and unwise.
