With so many lipstick shades to choose from, when it comes to buying one for yourself, it can be very difficult to know which shade you should go for. Since, like many, I love collecting different shades and experimenting with what suits me, I thought I’d share with you all which lipsticks you should be rocking if you have a lighter skin tone.
Let’s start with the nudes. For everyday wear, it’s usually a good idea to stick to a nude lipstick, something that’s subtle and adds to your makeup look without being too much of a statement. For pale skin, I usually find that MAC Faux is one of the best lipsticks for everyday. Described as a muted mauve-pink with a satin finish, this looks beautiful on a light complexion. Since it has a satin finish, this makes it perfect for a quick go to lipstick shade, as it requires minimal effort to apply. The mauve tone is very bold in this lipstick, and goes with any makeup look that I desire. So, if you have a similar skin tone to me then you need to get your hands on this shade.
Another nude shade that works wonders for us fair-skinned girls is NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anita, a warm pink nude. Since this has undertones of pink, Anita complements a pale skin tone beautifully and is so easy to wear as you can pair it with any makeup look. In terms of formula, the NARS Audacious lipsticks are all super creamy and pigmented, and cover your natural lip colour in one swipe, perfect!
Moving on to a more affordable option, another favourite nude of mine is the ColourPop Lippie Stix in the shade ‘Lumière’, a soft pink nude. This is without a doubt my favourite ColourPop lipstick, not only in terms of the formula, but the shade is gorgeous too. I also find that they’re so easy to apply, and are perfect for travelling, especially this shade as it’s so versatile and it will go with any makeup look.

Now, a shade that I think a lot of us struggle with… reds. Reds can be very difficult to pair with your skin tone. Should you go for an orange-toned red, a deep red, or a true red? Here’s the thing: if you have a fair skin tone, I personally think that a blue-toned true red will work best for you. My favourite true red shade, is MAC’s Russian Red, a classic matte red. Russian Red has to be one of the most famous red lipstick shades in the world, and I can certainly see why; it truly does last all day long, it’s easy to apply and doesn’t dry out your lips. If you’re wanting to try this shade, then as an added tip- it works perfectly with a glowy base and a coat of mascara.
In the winter time, I love to wear a burgundy lip but finding the right shade for me was a struggle. If I went too dark, it washed me out and if I went too light it just simply didn’t look good. So, after months of research, I found the perfect burgundy shade for me – NYX Copenhagen. This shade is beautiful, described as a ‘deep plum shade’ it looks stunning on a light skin tone as it’s not too dark, I would even go as far to say that it’s the perfect shade for autumn and winter! (It’s even an exact dupe for the Urban Decay Shame Lipstick)! I’d recommend wearing this shade with a slick black liner and a beautiful bronzed makeup look. Overall, NYX have some of the best matte lipstick formulas so even if this shade doesn’t appeal to you, you should 100% try out their other matte shades.

I also want to mention that when wearing a dark lipstick, I typically will only wear a matte formula as I think it works best and lasts the longest but that’s down to personal preference.
I honestly believe that you can wear any shade of lipstick and look fabulous, but this post is for those of you who struggle finding a shade that you’re comfortable with.
