The Perfect Base for the Perfect Face

Finding the perfect makeup base that lasts all day long can be hard, but after months of sampling different products I think I’ve finally found my favourite combination to give you a complexion that rivals NikkieTutorials.

Prep:

The first step is simple, you NEED to have clean moisturised skin. My all-time favourite moisuriser is the Clinique ‘Dramatically Different’ as I’ve found it to not only be super hydrating but also provides a lovely base for makeup. I simply cannot apply my face products without applying my moisturiser because I feel like the makeup doesn’t apply properly – I usually moisturise and let it sink in for 5-10 minutes.

Now, to start off the makeup look I usually like to prime my t-zone with the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. I like to use this only in my t-zone as that’s where my makeup comes off most. This is perfect for those of you who like a lightweight, silky textured primer – it provides a smooth base for makeup to adhere too and helps your makeup last all day!

mmmmmmmmm

Before foundation, I apply The Estee Edit Flash Illuminator onto my cheekbones to add a bronzed glow. I won’t go into too much detail about this product as I recently talked about it in my favourite liquid highlighters blog post, but this product will be great for those of you who like to have bronzed dewy skin all year round.

The Base:

If you have any blemishes, now would be the time to conceal them. I always conceal before foundation as I find that it makes the concealer last longer but that’s just me. I’ve been loving the NARS Soft Matte Concealer, it’s definitely one of my favourites for spot concealing and it works wonders for the undereye area!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

For foundation, I’ve been mixing the It Cosmetics ‘Your Skin But Better’ CC+ Cream and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Glow in the shade ‘Perla’. If you aren’t fond of super glowy skin then you don’t have to mix the liquid glow in, but if you do like a dewy finish then you NEED to try this combination. On the days when I’m going to work, I don’t like to have a heavy foundation, but I still want to achieve good coverage, which is why I like using the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream. Firstly, I love that it has SPF 50, which makes it great for the warmer months, but also, I like that it adds a good amount of coverage whilst still looking like skin. To mix these two together I apply half a pump of the CC cream and add a tiny drop of the Liquid Glow, mix and apply with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and I’m good to go!

mmmmmmmmmmmm
Once I have applied my foundation, I ALWAYS conceal my under eyes and at the moment I’ve been enjoying the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye concealer. I purchased a shade much lighter than my skin tone for the perfect under eye highlight but they have multiple shades for you to choose from. To apply this, I simply squeeze a little onto my ring finger and apply to each eye. The good thing about this is that a little really does go a long way so the concealer really will last you. I again have a blog post all about It Cosmetics so if you want to find out more, then click here.

If you like cream contour then this is when I apply mine. I am currently using the Rimmel Insta Contour Stick, and I adore it; it’s creamy, easy to use and really affordable.

The Powders-

mmmm

As soon as I’ve applied my concealer I set my under eyes with the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish Powder in the shade light, I find that I have to do this straight away to avoid creasing but also like to pack the powder underneath my eyes almost like baking. This powder applies to the under eyes beautifully and really does set your makeup in perfect place. I’ve found that the Real Techniques Setting Brush works best too. Whilst that’s setting, I like to do my eye makeup and when I’m done I simply brush away.

To set the rest of my face, I’ve been using the BareMinerals Original Loose Powder. This honestly makes my makeup look flawless, I typically don’t like setting my whole face because I LOVE dewy skin but this is beautiful. It still allows my skin to glow but sets it in place all day long whilst adding a little coverage, if you prefer a matte finish, then BareMinerals also have a matte version, which you should definitely pick up.

The next step is to carve out my cheekbones. For this, I use my NARS Laguna bronzing powder from the Bord de Plage palette. For this step, I use the Real Techniques Multi-Tasking brush and apply to the hollows of my cheeks and to my forehead to create the appearance of a smaller forehead.

mmm

Since I like to be super bronzed, I also apply a dusting of the Illamasqua Beyond Powder in the shade ‘Epic’. The Beyond Powders from Illamasqua have been flying off the shelves since they were released and it’s no wonder Epic is a deep rose-gold shimmer with warm undertones, and as I’ve said many times, I LOVE the sun-kissed look. In my opinion, it can complete every style of makeup look; from giving you a lovely, healthy look on those natural makeup days, to giving you a glamorous glisten when you want to make more of a dramatic statement.

If you think that’s enough highlight, then you can stop there but obviously, as a highlighter fanatic, I’m not finished. To complete my face makeup I add a light layer of the Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Glow Getter’ Highlighter from the Nicole Guerriero. If you didn’t get your hands on this palette, then you should perhaps purchase another of the ABH Glow Kits because I adore this so much, it’s one of my go-to palettes.

There you have it, the perfect face of makeup. Although it may seem like a lot, this makeup look usually takes me about 20 minutes, and lasts all day long. I can’t speak for those of you who have oily skin but for those of you who have either dry or combination you should definitely try this look out!

  1. I’ve heard good things about the Smashbox primer, but I haven’t tried it yet. I use Laura Geller Spackle primer, and I really like it. It has a golden tint to it, so I find it always gives my face a nice glow.

  2. That Smashbox primer is my absolute favorite, I want to try out the it Cosmetics bye bye under eye concealer next. Have you tried the tarte shape tape concealer, just wondering how the two compare?
