Buy or Bye: Rimmel Insta Duo Contour Stick

Over the past few years contouring has become more and more popular, thanks to the likes of Kim Kardashian and Jeffree Star, and with the recent releases of multiple contour sticks there are so many to choose from. Despite always having and preferring powder contour, I was all for purchasing the KKW Beauty creamcontour kit, but I thought that before I invest I should shop around and see if I actually like using contour sticks. I noticed that recently Rimmel released their first new selfie-ready collection, which contains a radiance primer, two correct and conceal palettes, a mattifying powder and a duo contour stick. I’m going to be honest with you, I’m not the biggest fan of Rimmel but this stick looked so similar to others, I knew I had to try.

So, in today’s post I will be reviewing the Rimmel Insta Duo Contour Stick and helping you decide whether to invest in the KKW Beauty Contour Kits or whether you should stick with a drugstore alternative?

The packaging for this is kept very simple, which I like, and on one end of the stick you have the highlighter and the other you get the contour shade.

Starting with shade selection, the Insta Duo Contour Stick is available in three shades (light, medium and dark) and I picked up the shade ‘Medium’ as I wanted more of a warm contour shade. So, if you prefer cool toned shades for contouring; you might not enjoy this particular shade. In this case, it might work best as a bronzer. As for the highlight, it is a pink Champagne with some fine shimmers, perfect for a natural highlight!

In terms of texture, both the contour and the highlight shades are both very creamy and blend beautifully into the skin. With being in a stick, it makes them super easy to apply in all areas of the face, especially if you’re into contouring your nose! To blend the contour shade, I find that the Real Techniques Stippling Brush works wonderfully and for the highlight, I think the fingertips are the best and only option – so get stuck in!

I must admit that I haven’t been using the highlight shade as much as the contour just because I much prefer a more dazzling highlight. However, if you’re more of a subtle glow lover then you will love this! I can see myself running out of the contour shade much faster though!

When using this I do like to set both products with a powder just to make sure that they last for as long as possible, which they do. However, I have used them without setting and they do still last a long time, so, if you have a drier skin type then you don’t have to worry about setting this product.

I couldn’t recommend this product any more and to be honest, I’m not someone that does much cream contouring, I just found it to be an extra step that wasn’t needed but with this contour stick craze being top in the beauty industry right now I thought I should see what all the hype was about and I’m SO glad that I did. If you don’t particularly know much about contouring or want to see how you feel about it, I think the Rimmel Insta Duo Contour Stick is the perfect ‘in’ to cream contouring and it’s only £6.99!

  1. This product sounds great. I wasn’t too sure on it at first, but your review makes it sound really good so I think I will try it out!

  2. Only just got around to catching up on this post but I’m so glad I have! I’ve been lookin for more cream-based products as I definitely prefer a dewy finish over a matte one. This stick sounds so ideal for me! Especially as for everyday makeup I like a more subtle highlight ( I save my dazzling highlights for night time!)

Thanks for recommending, I shall be going shopping on pay day methinks!
