With summer officially here to stay, at least until September, it’s the perfect season for adding a pop of colour and shine to your lips. Here are my top shades for the warmer months…
Starting with my favourite lip products for the summer months, the Lancôme Juicy Shakers, a perfect combination of oil and pigment. I have two favourite shades from the range, the first shade being ‘Berry Tale’, which as the name suggests is a beautiful bright raspberry shade. On my lips, this lasts around 2-3 hours, but as it’s so easy to apply, I don’t mind topping it up during the day! The second shade I would recommend for summer is ‘Freedom of Peach’, which is a very pale orange shade. I think that this shade works perfectly as a lipstick topper as it doesn’t have as much pigment as ‘Berry Tale’.

These are perfect for summer as the formula is lightweight and moisturising without the usual stickiness of a gloss. Each of the lip oils contains sweet almond oil, cranberry oil, peach oil, apricot oil and omega 3, which may seem like a lot, however the lightweight oil instantly melts into the lips.
Keeping up with the bright lips theme, my next summer lip colour recommendation is the Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in the shade ‘Peach on the Beach’- a neon pinky peach that would flatter any skin tone and perk up any natural makeup look! I find this give a beautiful pop of colour to the lips with the added bonus of SPF15 – making it great for summer. The texture of this is VERY creamy and it glides on the lips smoothly, whilst still being highly pigmented. I’ve also found that it’s very moisturising and the finish is beautifully glossy, making it the perfect summer shade. If you love bright shades for summer, then you should definitely try this out!
Similar to the Bourjois Crayon, another top pick for summer is the Clinique Crayola Chubby Stick in the shade ‘Pink Sherbet’. If you’re not into the bright shades for summer and want something a little more subtle, then you might just want to get your hands on this. Unlike most lip balm and lipstick combos, this has a beautiful light sheer finish which adds life to your lips. With it being more of a balm, the wear of this obviously doesn’t last all day but it’s perfect for on the go as it’s so easy to apply.
Next up, I want to mention the Soap and Glory ‘Sexy Mother Pucker’ Matte-Lip 3D Lip Colour and Sculpt in the shade ‘Pretty Muted’, which I have spoken about before in my Beauty Bargains blog post. This lipstick is lovely; it’s very pigmented yet creamy and lasts all day. ‘Pretty Muted’, is a matte muted pink and if you’re not a fan of the drying matte lip formula then these would be perfect for you!
Moving on to the more nude shades, I believe that you just simply cannot go wrong with a nude lip any time of year. My favourite nude for summer has to be the NARS Audacious Lipstick in the shade ‘Anita’, an antique rose. Firstly, I LOVE the NARS lipstick packaging! It’s so luxurious and sleek; it’s a definite vanity must-have. But, the formula of this is beautiful. The lipstick has a creamy finish, not matte or glossy, and on my lips, it’s not at all heavy and it’s easy to apply. ‘Anita’ also has the perfect amount of pigment that lasts for about 3-4 hours. If you don’t mind investing in makeup, then you will love this and it won’t be leaving your handbag this summer!
Another summer nude and the final lipstick that I just simply cannot live without is the ColourPop Lippie Stix in the shade ‘Aquarius’, a soft pink nude Crème. I must admit that ColourPop’s Lippie Stix are one of my favourite lipstick formulas; they’re so creamy and pigmented, but yet last all day on the lips. I also find that they’re so easy to apply, and are perfect for travelling, especially this shade as it’s so versatile and it will go with any makeup look. If you haven’t already, you should certainly test them out!
Whether I’m feeling like a muted lip colour or wanting to make a bold statement, all of these shades will work perfectly with whatever mood I’m in and they’ll certainly work for any of you! Let me know your favourite shades for summer in the comments below or on Twitter – @emstagramr
