Summer Makeup Bag Staples

During the warmer months, I will always have a re-vamp of my makeup bag. Not only do I prefer more bronzed and dewy looking skin but I also only like to carry around the absolute essentials in my bag for daily touch ups. So, I thought I’d share with you all what’s in my summer makeup bag and hopefully give you some inspiration for your own.

Let’s start with the ultimate essential, lip balm. All year round I will always carry a lip balm around with me and for summer, I’ve been loving the Hearth and Heritage Gin & Tonic lip balm. This is both highly moisturising and smells wonderful, I already have a blog post about this so I won’t go into too much detail but it’s the perfect lip balm for the warmer months.

Next in my makeup bag I have two concealers. This may seem a little over the top but I love them both and I use them both for different things. The first concealer I keep in my makeup bag is the NARS Soft Matte Concealer in the shade ‘custard’, which I use for spot concealing and touching up my nose! I love this, it’s perfect for on-the-go as the formula is incredibly pigmented and applies easily. It also dries down to a long-wear, powdery finish meaning setting powder isn’t required! The only thing that I would recommend is that you make sure your hands are clean before using! The second concealer that I like to carry around with me for my undereye area is the Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealer in the shade ‘Banana’. This is also a great concealer, it’s very pigmented and creamy making it perfect to cover up any dark circles. I have this in a shade lighter than the NARS one so it can really brighten up my eye area. With this concealer, a little definitely goes a long way so it will last you a good amount of time, and I find that it works best when applied with my ring finger.

This summer, I’ve decided to test out the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter in the shade ‘sin’, a light golden beige (which I thought would be perfect for this season). I’m loving this product, it allows me to create a radiant strobe effect to my makeup look or if I want something a little subtler I can also use it for a lighter highlighting effect, it’s completely up to you. I’ve found that this does last all day long, but I like to pack it with me just in case I need to reapply!

A definite essential of mine for summer is powder- typically I don’t have oily skin but I still like to carry powder around with me just in case. The powder I’ve been packing in my makeup bag is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder, which is perfect as it’s lightweight and comes with a mirror! The powder is certainly one of my favourites for summer, it’s finely milled and mattifies in a single sweep whilst still leaving you looking fresh.

For my on-the-go summer bronzer, I’ve been using the it Cosmetics CC+ Ombre Radiance Bronzer. Although I haven’t heard much about this, I honestly think it’s one of the best summer bronzers! When I first ordered the product, I expected it to be an average size but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, as it’s huge. The texture of the powder is very soft, almost creamy to the touch, and blends beautifully onto the skin.

The final makeup products in my makeup bag are two lip products from NYX. Now, I know in summer the usual lip trend is bright colours but I personally love going in the opposite direction with a nude lip. Firstly, I like to line my lips with the NYX Slide on Lip Pencil in the shade ‘Nude Suede’, a ‘my lips but better’ beige pink shade. I’ve actually never tried anything from NYX before, and I must say I was very impressed. This pencil glides on the lips smoothly, whilst still being highly pigmented and long lasting. To go with the lip liner, I’ve been paring it with the NYX Lip Lingerie Lipstick in the shade ‘Push Up’, a natural matte nude. I must admit, matte liquid lipsticks aren’t my favourites but this is beautiful; it’s not at all drying and feels velvety on the lips! I need to try out more shades! I received both of these lip products from a friend recently, and they’re the perfect nude lip combination.

To complete my summer makeup bag, I have four essential brushes that are always in my makeup bag and they’re all from Real Techniques. The first being their Blush Brush, which I find works perfectly for my bronzer, the second being their Multi Task Brush which works best for a light dusting of powder. The Real Techniques Cheek Brush is also a summer essential, for blending in any concealer touch-ups and finally, I like to pack the Duo Fiber Contour Brush for my highlighter. Real Techniques brushes are without a doubt my favourite brushes; they’re such great quality and affordable! I couldn’t recommend them enough to you all, if you’re new to makeup brushes you should 100% check out their brush sets.

To house my summer selections, I’ve been using the Oliver Bonas Alphabet Makeup Bag, which is the perfect size for my handbag and for all my products!
