Eight Summer Essentials

With the warmer months upon us and holiday plans in full swing, I thought I’d share my eight summer essentials.

Let’s start with the makeup. The first summer must-have that everyone needs in their life is a liquid bronzer. One of my current favourites is the Benefit Dew the Hoola, but honestly any liquid bronzer is essential for sun-kissed skin! Dew the Hoola is a beautiful caramel-like colour and is perfect for a natural bronzed glow. I find that just one pump of the product is enough for the cheeks, temples, and tip of the nose to give that convincing holiday glow, even in British weather!

Next on my list is another liquid product: Marc Jacobs Coconut Gel Dew Drops. In summer, I find a cream/gel highlighter a must. The dew drops are inspired by Marc Jacobs’ love of coconut water and the glow of radiant skin. Let me tell you, this highlighter instantly brightens my complexion and works perfectly as a base under foundation, adding a natural glow without being greasy. With a beautiful golden sheen, this will look perfect on any skin tone, so if you’re looking for the perfect summer highlighter then you need this in your life.

For this season, I’ve been loving the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in the shade Formentera, a perfect dusty rose with gold shimmers. This is perfect for summer as it’s lightweight, pigmented and dewy, especially when the sun shines on the micro-shimmers, which looks perfect on cheekbones, apples, and lips.

My current go-to lip balm for the warmer months is the Jack Black Intense Therapy, and I love it! Looking after your lips is essential during the summer months, and what better way than with a grapefruit scented, SPF 25 lip balm? I’ve also tried the mint scented one, which is great for winter too!

In summer, I hate the feeling of wearing a heavy matte lipstick, so I’ve been opting for the Lancôme Juicy Shaker Lip Oil in the shade Bohemian Raspberry, a cool toned medium pink. The formula is very lightweight and comfortable and leaves a beautiful wash of colour on the lips. If you didn’t know, the Juicy Shakers are a pigmented nourishing lip oil, with a unique cushion applicator. The product is bi-phase, which requires you to shake it in order to combine the pigment and the oil before applications… just like a cocktail! Being an oil, these are perfect for summer, so you can rock a pop of colour whilst still having juicy feeling lips!

The final item on my list for makeup is the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, an essential for the oilier skinned girls! Personally, I only use powder in the summer to set my under eyes and t-zone, but I find this one of the best… especially for only £3.99! There are many pros to this powder: it’s inexpensive, it prevents creasing and sets the makeup without looking chalky, and another bonus, it comes in a variety of shades! Whether you have dry or oily skin, you need this for the summer!

Moving on to nails; bright colours are 100% essential for summer and my shade for summer 2017 is Semilac’s Peach Milk, a gorgeous pale coral. In summer, when I’m a little more tanned (whether from a bottle or the sun), I LOVE opting for a coral nail polish as it really stands out against tanned skin. When applied with a base and top coat, this polish can last up to a week, and for £4.50 I feel like you can’t go wrong!

Tanning is an essential for me during the summer months, but when I’m not quite feeling like a full tanning session I’ll use the Bondi Sands Gradual Tanning Milk for a natural bronzed look. The directions on the bottle recommend applying an even amount of the product to clean, dry skin, rubbing it in using circular motions, and with this application there’s no streaks or mess… just remember to wash your hands after use! I will usually apply this every night before bed, but after the first day you will see a change in colour!  I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is wanting to increase their tan by a few shades without having to apply fake tan.

If you can’t tell, in summer I’m a complete believer in the ‘less is more’ look. I love dewy, bronzed skin with a pop of colour! So, I hope this list helps you decide on your beauty buys for the hot summer months! What are your summer essentials? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter @emstagramr!
