When it comes to my go-to summer makeup look, there’s no other way to describe it but glowy, simple, and quick. Let’s be honest, when we have full-time jobs every second of slumber counts and we don’t want to sacrifice sleep for endless hours perfecting our makeup. So, I thought I’d write a post on my favourite glowy makeup look that’s perfect for summer!
Before going into the makeup, let’s talk skincare… to gain my summer makeup glow, every morning and evening I simply cleanse my face with the Garnier Micellar Gel Cleanser, apply a few drops of the Rio Rosa Mosqueta Antioxidant Facial Oil and then moisturise with the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion. This skincare combo has honestly done wonders for my skin, and I have really noticed a difference in the radiance of my skin!
Moving onto the makeup, I usually let my skincare sink in for 5-10 minutes whilst I get ready for the day and then I’ll start with my base! To ‘prime’ I like to use the Marc Jacobs Dew Drops, which really allows my skin to have a natural, non-greasy, glow! During summer, I don’t find it necessary to use a real primer or foundation but if you feel more comfortable wearing them then feel free to use your favourites! After the dew drops have dried, I apply a generous amount of the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer under my eyes and wherever else needs covering. Since cream products are definitely essential in the summer months, I like to add two drops of the Giorgio Armani Maestro Liquid Bronzer onto a clean buffing brush and apply it to my cheekbones, forehead and jawline for a real ‘bronzed goddess’ look. I then like to go in with my Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer which I’ll then add under my eyes, on my forehead, on my chin and under my cheek bones (for a cut cheek bone) and then blend in with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush.
For my eyes, I like to stick to looks that will bring out my eye colour and won’t take too long to create, so for this makeup look I stuck to four shades from the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette; I started off with ‘Substitute for Love’, a light chocolate brown, in my crease. I then applied ‘Pure Ganache’, a beautiful warm golden bronze, all over my lid, using my finger for maximum colour pay off. To deepen my crease, I decided to add a very light dusting of ‘Freshly Toasted’, a rich matte deep brown, with a small blender brush and finally I used an angled liner brush with the shade ‘Infusion’, a shimmery brown black, to create a hint of darkness at my lash line. I adore this palette, all the shades are so pigmented, you can create so many different looks and it’s great for travelling. This lovely delight can be anyone’s cup of tea! To complete the makeup look, I applied two very generous coats of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara!
Once the eyes are complete, I applied a light dusting of the Urban Decay Naked Skin pressed powder, focussing on my under eyes and t-zone, to set my face.
Now time for my favourite part of the look, highlighter and bronzer! To set the liquid bronzer that I previously used, I added a dusting of the It Cosmetics Ombre Radiance Bronzer to the areas that I applied the liquid, then I went over my cheek bones with my favourite bronzer/highlighter; the Illamasqua Beyond Powder in the shade ‘epic’ to add even more of a glow! To complete the cheek look, and keeping up with the cream products, I’ve been enjoying applying the Sleek Cream Highlighter Palette with my fingertips over top of the bronzer and then I set that with the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Highlighter and Bobbi Brown Blush.
Finally, to complete my summer makeup look I used the ColourPop Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Midi, a perfect pinky nude that will last all day!
Summertime offers many different challenges when it comes to your makeup – the sun can make a great makeup look turn into a melted mess or your usual makeup look can appear harsh under the bright summer sun. So, my advice to you is creams, creams, creams. I promise you all that cream products are going to be your best friend in summer, they offer a natural look and last all day, whilst still leaving your skin looking flawless.
