Since summer is just around the corner, I thought that it was time to spruce up my makeup bag and go shopping! I purchased these items from Selfridges about a week ago, meaning they’ve had time to be tried and tested, so it’s only fair that I share the products and my thoughts on them with you!
The first item that I knew I had to buy as soon as I saw it is the Giorgio Armani Maestro Liquid Summer Bronzer! I usually do so much research before investing in something like this, but I knew Giorgio Armani wouldn’t let me down and after googling swatches, I knew I had to try it out! The Maestro Liquid Bronzer creates a beautiful natural sun-kissed look with just a couple of drops, leaving a ‘no makeup feel’ whilst still being dewy on the skin.
I also picked up the Kiehl’s Lip Balm in the pear scent. If you’ve tried the Nuxe lip balm, then this is very similar; it doesn’t leave the lips feeling sticky and keeps them feeling hydrated all day long – a must for people with dry or chapped lips! I apply it very liberally and focus on applying it first thing in the morning and then again at night, I do think this would be even more amazing in the winter, but with the pear scent it makes it perfect for summer too!
Next on my list of things I needed to buy was powder; I go through face powders like there’s not tomorrow, not from finishing them but just because I love trying new ones! I wanted to try out the Urban Decay Naked Skin Pressed Finishing Powder. I love everything from the Naked Skin range so far, and so I thought why not? I would describe this powder as a silky yet weightless finishing powder with a luminous, demi-matte finish, perfect for summer!
Sticking with the Urban Decay theme, I thought I should also test out their Afterglow Powder Highlighter in the shade Sin. Of course, I couldn’t do a makeup haul without a highlighter, I may be slightly addicted! Let me start by saying that if you love a blinding highlight then you perhaps won’t love this, but if you’re more of a subtle glow lover, then you will adore it! Sin is a wearable soft gold, that will go with any skin tone or makeup look. It’s very natural, but still beautiful on a ‘no makeup’ day.
I’m unsure if you’d class the next product as luxury as it’s very affordable, but since I was making an order already I thought I would pick up the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette as it’s been on my wish list for some time now. This palette comes with a variety of shades featuring matte, satin, metallic, duo chrome and matte with glitter finishes, and is the perfect palette for travelling. All of the shades are highly pigmented and blend seamlessly into the skin; for the price, I don’t think a brand could do any better!
Another palette that I decided to purchase is the Bobbi Brown SS17 Cheek Palette, containing a highlighter, bronzer and blush. I hadn’t heard anything about the palette but from looking online, I thought it would be a lovely item to have for summer. I’m still unsure how I feel about this palette; It has such a hefty price tag and could be a lot better. You’ll see from the swatches that the shades aren’t too pigmented, and the blush isn’t typically a shade I would go for, but on the other hand, they blend beautifully into the skin and it’s the perfect palette for on the go touch ups! If you’re thinking of purchasing this item, then I would recommend trying it in store first rather than ordering online.
The final item that I bought, again something that’s been on my wish list for a while, is the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer. I knew that I had to try out this concealer because I’ve only ever heard good things about it from other beauty personalities, and I must admit, it’s definitely worth the hype! From using the Becca concealer a few months ago, this made me fall back in love with pot concealers. The formula is oil free and long-wearing; it’s matte but not too matte that your skin looks dry. It’s also creamy, yet pigmented and sits perfectly under the eyes!
After updating the whole of my makeup bag for summer, I’m not going to be making any more makeup purchases for a while, but I’m very happy with all the items that I did get and I can’t wait to use them properly.
