No matter what the weather, my favourite makeup look is bronzed, glowing skin. Saying this, we unfortunately don’t get enough sunshine in the UK to catch a genuine ‘bronzed goddess’ tan, so, instead I have to rely on a generous sweep of bronzer.
With a mix of powders, creams and liquids in my makeup collection, I’ve tried a whole host of products, meaning I have an idea of what works and what doesn’t. So, here I am, writing a blog post on the top 5 bronzers that I’m always reaching for!
First up is the Stila One Step Bronze. This is definitely a Holy Grail product for me, and one that I have now replaced 3 times, since I first discovered it. Whilst it can lean too much on the orange side for some people, I adore the warmer tone and find it complements my skin well whether I’m tanned or not. As it’s a silky smooth, almost gel-like cream, it leaves skin looking so much more healthy and glowing than a powder formula does. This trio-colour gel can be used on bare skin, mixed with your foundation, or applied with a buffing brush as a final base step, to anywhere the sun naturally hits, which is what I like to do! Another plus? It also has skincare properties that hydrate and improve tone and texture so now I can stay bronzed with benefits!
When it comes to all-over bronzing, I usually reach for my MAC Refined Golden Bronzer, a golden bronzer with a sheen to it. Again, this is very pigmented on my pale skin tone, but it works perfectly during the summer if I have more of a tan. I like to apply Refined Golden with a light hand, but if you apply too much then don’t worry, it’s a dream to blend out! I find that it is excellent for creating or enhancing the look of healthy, glowing, tanned skin, which can be used on my face or body!
The next product isn’t technically a bronzer, but I like to use it as one! The Beyond Powders from Illamasqua have been flying off the shelves since they were released and it isn’t hard to see why. Epic is a deep rose-gold shimmer with warm undertones, and as I’ve said many times, I LOVE the sun-kissed look. In my opinion, it can complete every style of makeup look; from giving you a lovely, healthy look on those natural makeup days, to giving you a glamorous glisten when you want to make more of a dramatic statement. The formula of this is velvety, and the pigmentation is also incredible; I simply sweep this lightly over my face for an illuminated finish.
My all-time favourite go-to bronzer has to be the Hourglass Ambient Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light. Although it looks it in the pan, it isn’t that shimmery on the skin, but leaves a beautiful glow to your face (I find that this is a perfect option if your complexion is looking dull). There’s never a patchy finish with this bronzer and I never find myself applying too much and regretting it. Saying that, this bronzer is seriously pigmented, and I’ve learned that using a brush such as the Real Techniques Blush Brush works best! Perfection always comes at a price and this bronzer certainly isn’t cheap, but it’s such a lovely product that it will last you, so it’s definitely worth a splurge!
My final favourite bronzer has to be The Body Shop Honey Bronzer, in shade 03. I was on the lookout for another matte bronzer in the summer last year, and I ended up finding out about this product on a blog. I am happy to report that it does live up to its hype, which is fabulous as it’s affordable too! Starting with packaging, it’s very luxurious yet so simplistic and light-weight. I find that the bronzer feels like velvet upon application and blends seamlessly, meaning that the finish always looks perfect! The Honey Bronzer is also enriched with honey and offers a skin-like matte finish, which is great for those who don’t enjoy a shimmery bronzer!

For a sun-kissed sheen, I would recommend you apply bronzer where the sun would naturally hit!
